Opening Day on the Surfbreaker

February 5th, 2005

Jon, Wayne and I all headed out to the local surf breaker bright and early today. The only problem was that the usual lady who sells all the bait and organizes the boat wasn't there, neither was the boat taxi???? We called them up to ask what's up and they said since there's been so many earthquakes there hasn't been many fisherman wanting to go out. So the captain says no problem he'll get out of bed and start the boat and tell the lady to come down and set us up. You got to love that kind of service

We fished otoshikomi with live shrimps called mo-ebis. They're basically a 4-5 cm long grass shrimp that make sea bass and chinu go crazy. Well at 7:10 am Wayne's rod was bent over hard with a nice sea bass at the end of it. It took him a few minutes but of course since he's now a seasoned veteran he had no problems.

Overall Jon and Wayne got 3 juvenile sea bass using live shrimps and lures. I on the other hand only got a fugu! Oh well at least we got to enjoy the weather and chat about our next trip. The season should only get better and better.

Tight lines,

Nigel
